The JennAir tracks water use against the hardness level you set from its test strip, from one to four dots. When it is due, DESCALE! shares the display with the normal drink screen, for example MEDIUM CUP. MEDIUM CUP, DESCALING What to do when DESCALE! shows on the coffee machine ### Kind of code Mode, not a failure The machine is doing what it was set to do, not wearing out: a rinse that runs through the spouts at switch-on and switch-off, a descale or filter reminder counting the water that has passed through, an energy-save mode that darkens the screen after a quiet spell, or a demo mode left on from the showroom that lights the keys and pours nothing. Each step comes from JennAir's own guidance for DESCALE! on its coffee machines. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit. 01 Fit the hot water spout, then choose DESCALING from the menu and confirm with OK. 02 When Add Descaler Press OK shows, empty the tank, add a packaged descaler and water as its label says, and set a container of at least 2 qt under the spout. 03 When RINSING FILL TANK! shows, empty the container, rinse the tank well, refill it and let the rinse run until RINSING COMPLETE. 04 If DESCALE! returns right after a finished cycle, book a visit. ### Cleared? The message is gone, and the machine grinds, heats and pours a full cup again with no new part. If it comes back within the week, or the descale or filter reminder returns straight after a finished cycle, say so in the booking. ### What not to do DESCALE! is not a warning that the coffee system is damaged. Fit the hot water spout, then choose DESCALING from the menu and confirm with OK. ### Can I use vinegar to clear DESCALE! on my JennAir coffee system? No. JennAir asks for a packaged descaling agent only, mixed as its package directs. ### Why does my JennAir ask for descaling so often? The water hardness setting may be higher than your water needs. Test with the strip and set the number of dots to match the red squares. ### What happens if the power goes out during a JennAir descale? The cycle has to start again from the beginning.
