# Coffee machine guides, read first.

A coffee machine repair guide is only useful if it answers the question you actually have, so these are split by what you are trying to find out — is this worth paying for, what is that noise, what can I check myself — rather than by which part of the appliance it concerns.

## Work out what you are dealing with.

Split by what you are trying to find out rather than by what part of the appliance it concerns.

Reading did not fix it?

### The work itself

Every guide here ends in the same place: what a technician actually does about it, in the order it gets done.

10 kinds of work Cheapest cause first What a visit costs

See what we do

Curious where the bill might land? That has a page of its own, because no honest figure exists before the machine has been tested — [coffee machine repair cost](https://coffeemachinerepair.center/cost/).

## Not sure where to start?

A few questions come up with almost every coffee machine booking. The four guides below are for whoever is standing at the machine with an empty cup, a puddle on the counter or a prompt that will not clear, and more than one of them ends without a visit.

[Or start from the symptom](https://coffeemachinerepair.center/problems/)

### Water under or around the machine Water Leaking From a Coffee Machine Into Its Cabinet: Power, Shutoff, Then the Source

Why the breaker comes before the towel, how to close the supply on a plumbed unit, and the four places water in a coffee cabinet usually starts: tank seat, tray, condensation and hose.

### It grinds and hums, the cup stays empty Why no coffee comes out: the tank, a choked grind and the spout connector

The grinder runs, the pump hums and the cup stays empty. Listen to which stage goes quiet, then check the water, the grind and the outlet before suspecting the brew unit.

### The descale prompt, and doing it right Descaling a Coffee Machine by Its Maker's Program, Tablets and Timing

How the machine decides a descale is due, what the Miele and JURA programs ask for, why vinegar and a stopped cycle do harm, and when a filter changes the schedule.

### Fix this machine or buy another Repair or Replace a Coffee Machine: Wear Parts, Scale and the Cutout It Sits In

Which worn parts are routine repairs, when scale or a discontinued board ends a machine's life, and why a built-in in a finished cabinet leans hardest toward fixing.

## When reading is not enough.

If the checks in a guide did not settle it, a technician picks up from there. The visit, stop by stop.

[What repairs cost](https://coffeemachinerepair.center/cost/)

1. 01 A test cup, step by step
2. 02 The price, then the part
3. 03 Common parts on the van
4. 04 Pouring before we leave

## When there is no time to read.

These four mean the coffee machine stays off until a technician has seen it: water running from it or its cabinet toward an outlet or into the woodwork, a hot electrical or burning smell, a breaker that trips as it heats, or steam and scalding water spraying where no spout is. Each page puts the causes in the order worth checking, and says when to stop and book.

## Questions about the guides.

### Can a coffee machine guide save me a visit?

Often it can: many calls end at a brew unit that only needed a rinse, a grinder blocked by an oily bean, a tank seated a little crooked, a milk tube pinched in its holder or a descale left half finished. The guides explain why the cup runs thin, why nothing comes out and why the milk stays flat, and which checks are safe from the front of the machine. Nothing they suggest goes past the parts the manual lets you remove; the housing, the pump and the wiring stay with us.

### Are the coffee machine guides written for one make?

Mostly not. A brew unit or a thermoblock does the same job whatever the badge says, so the guides are arranged by kind of machine rather than by make. Where one maker does it differently, such as a fixed brew unit that is cleaned by a cycle instead of by hand, the guide says so; your own manual still comes first.

### For a coffee machine, should I read a guide or a problem page?

If the machine is misbehaving this morning, go to the problem pages, which start at the sign you can see or taste. Guides are for questions you can take your time over: built-in or countertop, plumbed or tank-fed, how often to descale, how to care for the milk system, or when a new machine beats another repair.

### Where do the facts in the coffee machine guides come from?

Each specific claim is tied to its source: a maker's operating or installation manual, or published guidance from the EPA, the USGS, the FDA, the CDC or the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Where a point carries no source, it comes from what our technicians see on visits, and the guide marks it that way.
