Almost all of SoHo lies in the SoHo–Cast Iron Historic District, about 500 buildings on 26 blocks, with most facades put up between 1840 and 1880. ## What SoHo does to a coffee machine. The upper floors of many of these buildings were built as open commercial lofts for manufacturing, and Loft Law protections later helped the artists living in them to stay. SoHo's water comes from the Catskill/Delaware and Croton supplies, which DEP treats with chlorine, ultraviolet light and fluoride. DEP's 2024 tests found sodium in the city's water between 9 and 42 mg/L, and iron averaging 30 micrograms per liter. [All of New York Metro](https://coffeemachinerepair.center/locations/new-york/) ### Older housing stock Older houses rarely have a water line where a remodel wants a plumbed coffee system, so a new run is added from the sink or a basement pipe, and an old galvanized pipe can send rust and sediment to the machine's inlet screen. ### Tower living A tower kitchen shares a floor slab with the apartment below, so a coffee machine leaving water on the counter or in its cabinet is switched off, its tank is emptied, and a plumbed unit's shutoff under the sink is closed before anyone looks further. ### Studios and short counters On a short counter a countertop espresso machine is pushed against the wall and under the upper cabinets, where steam from its wand and warmth from its cup plate collect, so its board and seals age faster. ## A visit in SoHo.
