Other causes are real: a brew-unit seal that lets water pass into the tray on every cup, a relief valve that keeps dripping, or scale that holds a valve open. A tray that asks to be emptied while nearly dry usually has its sensor fooled; many trays read their level through two metal contacts that coffee residue can bridge.
