What DESCALE
actually means.

A flowmeter inside every Wolf coffee system tallies the water used. When the tally reaches the limit set by the water hardness setting, from 1 for soft water to 4 for hard, the display asks for a descale and flashes the reminder while the unit sits idle. The message clears only after the full cycle, including the final rinse with a refilled tank, has run to the end.

What to do when DESCALE shows on the coffee machine

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Wolf's own guidance for DESCALE on its coffee machines. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Test your water with the strip supplied and set the hardness level to match, so the reminder arrives at the right interval.

02

Start the descale from the options menu with descaling solution in the tank, the water spout fitted and a large container under the spouts; the EC2450 and EC3050 need room for at least 85 oz.

03

Keep watch through the cycle, topping the tank up with fresh water at each prompt until the last rinse ends.

04

If DESCALE shows again straight after a complete cycle, run it once more; if it still will not clear, book a visit.

Cleared?

The message is gone, and the machine grinds, heats and pours a full cup again with no new part. If it comes back within the week, or the descale or filter reminder returns straight after a finished cycle, say so in the booking.

What not to do

DESCALE does not tell you the coffee system is already scaled up badly; it is a counter, not a sensor. It is also not the reason for cold coffee on its own, though scale left for months can reduce heating.

No repair indicated

Nothing to repair.

The machine is doing what it was set to do, not wearing out: a rinse that runs through the spouts at switch-on and switch-off, a descale or filter reminder counting the water that has passed through, an energy-save mode that darkens the screen after a quiet spell, or a demo mode left on from the showroom that lights the keys and pours nothing. No part is needed; finishing the cycle the display asks for, or a key sequence from the manual, ends it.

Questions
about DESCALE.

Can I clear DESCALE myself?
Test your water with the strip supplied and set the hardness level to match, so the reminder arrives at the right interval.
Why does DESCALE keep coming back on my Wolf coffee system so soon?
The interval depends on the water hardness setting. If it is set to 4 but your water is soft, the counter runs out quickly; test the water and lower the setting to match.
I descaled my Wolf EC24 and the message is still there. Did it work?
Probably not all the way. The reminder only clears when the last rinse with a refilled tank has finished, so an interrupted rinse leaves it on the display.
Do I have to hold a container under the Wolf spouts for the whole descale?
Yes. Wolf does not make a vessel that sits on the tray for this, so a pitcher held or placed under the spouts is needed through every stage.

Back to your everyday

Still showing DESCALE?

Three things make the booking useful: the message or number exactly as the display showed it, the full model number from the plate, and whether the machine still grinds and pours at all. Send those and the likely part can be looked up before the van leaves.
