What F73
actually means.

The brew unit has to travel to a set position and compress the grounds before water goes through. When it cannot get there, either because it is dirty or because its drive is out of step, the machine stops and shows F73. Miele's fix is to rinse the unit, set its coffee ejector, and let the machine reset the motor with the unit out.

What to do when F73 shows on the coffee machine

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Miele's own guidance for F73 on its coffee machines. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Switch the machine off and let it cool, then open the door and try to lift out the brew unit; if it comes out, rinse it under running water.

02

Push the unit's coffee ejector back into its correct position, refit the water container, close the door and switch on with the brew unit left out so the motor returns to its start position.

03

When Insert the brew unit appears, put it back and close the door; if the unit will not come out at all, switch off for about 2 minutes and try again, and book a visit if it stays stuck.

What not to do

F73 is not a grinder problem, even though no coffee comes out. It is also not solved by forcing the brew unit in or out, which can damage its drive.

Questions
about F73.

Can I clear F73 myself?
Switch the machine off and let it cool, then open the door and try to lift out the brew unit; if it comes out, rinse it under running water. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Why does my Miele say to switch on with the brew unit left out after F73?
With the unit out, the machine can drive its motor back to the start position. Once Insert the brew unit appears, the unit will line up and slide back in.
My Miele brew unit will not come out after F73. Should I pull harder?
No. Miele's step for a unit that will not come out is a two-minute power-down, then another try. If it stays stuck, book a visit.
Can oily beans cause F73 on a Miele coffee system?
Soiling is one of the two causes Miele names, and oily coffee clogs the brew unit faster. Degreasing it on schedule helps prevent a repeat.

Still showing F73?

Three things make the booking useful: the message or number exactly as the display showed it, the full model number from the plate, and whether the machine still grinds and pours at all. Send those and the likely part can be looked up before the van leaves.
