What F233
actually means.

The central spout lowers itself until a sensor touches the rim of your cup. If something bumps that sensor while the spout is rising, it loses track of where it is, and F233 appears. Until the next switch-on the spout stays up and cup-rim detection is off.

What to do when F233 shows on the coffee machine

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Miele's own guidance for F233 on its coffee machines. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Confirm the message with OK.

02

Refit the cup-rim sensor under the central spout so it sits in place.

03

Switch the machine off and back on later; detection resets at the next switch-on, and if F233 keeps returning with the sensor seated, book a visit.

What not to do

F233 does not mean the spout motor has failed. It is also different from a drink stopping early with a very wide cup, which Miele treats as normal because the sensor cannot touch the rim.

What you may
notice with it.

The coffee machine problems F233 tends to arrive with. Answer these at the coffee machine before anyone is booked.

Questions
about F233.

Can I clear F233 myself?
Confirm the message with OK. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Can I still make coffee on my Miele after F233?
Yes. The spout stays in its top position and cup-rim detection is off until the next switch-on, so place a tall enough cup.
What knocks the cup-rim sensor out of place on a Miele built-in?
Miele describes a cup hitting it while the central spout moves up. Removing the cup before the spout rises avoids it.
Does the Miele cup-rim sensor need cleaning?
Miele asks for it to be cleaned at least once a week, more often if soiled. A dirty sensor is worth ruling out before booking.

Still showing F233?

Three things make the booking useful: the message or number exactly as the display showed it, the full model number from the plate, and whether the machine still grinds and pours at all. Send those and the likely part can be looked up before the van leaves.
