What F74
actually means.

Miele puts these numbers in its shorter group: switch off, wait about two minutes, switch back on. They come from inside the machine, so there is nothing in the tank, tray or bean container to check first. A number that survives the restart needs a technician.

What to do when F74 shows on the coffee machine

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Miele's own guidance for F74 on its coffee machines. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Switch the coffee machine off with the On/Off button.

02

Wait about 2 minutes, then switch it on again.

03

If the number shows again, confirm it with OK; if it returns after that, book a visit and note the exact number.

What not to do

F74 is not a prompt to remove the brew unit, which Miele signals with F73 and a worded message. Waiting longer than two minutes does no harm, but it is not what the manual asks for this group.

What you may
notice with it.

The coffee machine problems F74 tends to arrive with. Answer these at the coffee machine before anyone is booked.

Still showing F74?

Three things make the booking useful: the message or number exactly as the display showed it, the full model number from the plate, and whether the machine still grinds and pours at all. Send those and the likely part can be looked up before the van leaves.
